A Soldier’s Wife #NaPoWriMo #Poetry

I didn’t want to let you go

But knew you wouldn’t stay

It’s not your nature to hide

No, you’d rather confront this

Terrible, invisible enemy

My heart’s aches

Will I see your face

Or hear your voice again?

Darkness abounds

No matter where I turn

Oh, how I miss your protecting arms!

Letting you go

The hardest thing I ever had to do

Not knowing if you’ll ever return

Forever a soldier in service to others

To a higher calling beyond yourself

Being your wife

Is the hardest job I’ve ever accepted

Yet loving you

Allowing you to fill my heart, my life

I will never regret

  1. Thank you Carrie. Very moving. Heart-rending sending loved ones to war, even more so against an invisible, unpredictable and all-mighty enemy. In for the long haul of Nanowripo, the best of luck. Have an inspiring April.
