#IWSG Favorite Genres For Reading

This month’s question: Everyone has a favorite genre or genres to write. But what about your reading preferences? Do you read widely or only within the genre(s) you create stories for? What motivates your reading choice?

I don’t read as widely as I used to. My preferences are mostly Science Fiction/Fantasy/Dystopian with some Horror. I do not like reading “real life” types of stories unless they have a fantastical element to them (or paranormal).

I enjoy reading books like Harry Potter, Divergent, Maze Runner, Genesis of Shannara as well as a few of Nora Robert’s books (ones with the paranormal elements) as well as Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books.

Lately, I’ve been “reading” (via Aubible) novelization of certain films such as Aliens, Predator, and the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

I especially enjoy reading series (which incidentally nearly all the ones I listed above are part of a series).

My reading choices are pretty much in line with the types of stories I write.

What about you? Do you typically read the same genre(s) as you write?

  1. Sounds like some pretty awesome series! I like the Shannara books.
I love reading a wide variety of genres. I posted for IWSG day today. My post included a new book by a friend, a note about a free book next week, a tweet about a query contest (LGBTQ romance this round), and a quick message about April Blogging from A to Z Challenge.

  2. I got to do a book signing at the table next to Terry Brooks! It was quite the farce (for me). His line was massive, and they had to keep it from winding around into my area. Some day! (Shannon @ The Warrior Muse)
