10 Films Based On Short Stories

Are all movies produced from screenplays only?

Nope.

Many have been inspired by novels. Think Harry Potter and Twilight. But, did you know that there are a large number inspired by short stories?

Here are a few just to give you an idea:

Sleepy Hollow – based on Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The Birds – based on Daphne du Maurier’s story with the same name

Minority Report – based on Philip K. Dick’s story with the same name

I, Robot – inspired by a collection of short stories by Issac Asimov of the same name

Candyman – based on Clive Barker’s collection of stories in the Books of Blood

They Live – based on Ray Nelson’s Eight O’Clock In the Morning

Dark Water – based on Koji Suzuki’s Floating Water

Screamers – based on Philip K. Dick’s Second Variety

The Thing – based on John W. Campbell Jr.’s Who Goes There?

In my next post, how does a short story get selected to be a film?

The Genre of Zombies (Poll)

What do you think?  Have the zombies been overplayed?  Not just in books but also in the movies and television?

I’ve seen many variation of the zombie genre that played into science fiction, thriller, western, historical, and fantasy.  Are there any sub-genre that zombies haven’t been over-used?

Fantastical Friday: Harry Potter

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,  the first book in an iconic fantasy series, was released on 26 June 1997, and boy did it change everything.

Then comes the movie (released 2001) and a whole new magical world is opened up for both kids and adults alike.

I enjoy reading and watching series of all kinds, but I’m a HUGE fan of Harry Potter’s!

What about you?  Do you have a favorite book or movie series?

You Tube Tuesday: Taylor Davis

(*YouTube Tuesday idea originally came from the Martians Attack blog)

One of my fave musicians is a violinist, Taylor Davis.  I love, LOVE her music and have already included them in several of the videos I’ve created for my written work.  She performed many music for well-known TV shows, featured movies, popular games as well as anime.  The Game of Thrones’ theme is her music as shown above.

She also has released a number of her own original works which are beautiful!  “Morning Star” below is one of my favorites:

If you’d like to participate in YouTube Tuesday, post something from YouTube that you enjoyed and tell us a bit about it.  Don’t forget to include the link to this post in yours so I can check it out.  Also, if you’re on Twitter, Tweet about it using the hashtag #YouTubeTuesday.

Time To Dream A Little…

Whenever you write a story, have you ever envision it being created into a film?  If so, ever picture in your mind who you would have play your main characters?  This is what I’ve done for my current horror serial; for fun, mind you although I’ve always dreamed of having one of my stories produced into either a short or feature film 🙂

Who would you have as actors to play your main characters?  Dream big!  Have fun 🙂
