Quotes About Writing and Blogging

I’m still contemplating on my dual roles as a writer and a blogger; but, here are several quotes I came across that caught my attention:

“Blogging is good for your career. A well-executed blog sets you apart as an expert in your field.” -Penelope Trunk

“I think of us as journalists; the medium we work in is blogging.” -Joshua Micah Marshall

“Blogging is just writing — writing using a particularly efficient type of publishing technology.” -Simon Dumenco

“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” -Philip Pullman

“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.” -Annais Nin

Do you have any favorite quotes about writing and/or blogging that you like to share?

  1. I learned nothing from the quotes.
Blogging is a place to experiment with various forms of writing – essay, satire, commentary, story, etc. No one is completely successful in each blog: Too many words, the wrong word, adventuresome sentences.
And, to improve yourself, a writer/blogger should be conscious of the style of writing, and try to meet it. An essay differs from satire, although there can be satire and derision in an essay. Blogging allows people to define these distinctions further.

    • Very true. I also agree that we should be very conscious of which writing style we use in our blogs. I see too many “bad” blogs where posts are just thrown up without really any thought given to content or grammar. Personally, I’ve been experimenting with various styles over the years to see “what works” for me as a writer. It’s definitely still a work-in-progress at this point. Thank you for stopping by! 🙂

  2. I think I’m of the school that sees no clear distinction between blogging and “writing”. It’s just another vent for the creative side. When I get suck with my fiction, I find I can usually blog something – so it keeps the pen flowing. My own favourite quote is from Flannery O’Conner who says (among other things) “I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.”

Great blog, Carrie. Keep up the good work!
